Call for Submissions

The members of the Women's Writing Workshop will be publishing a series of themed creative nonfiction anthologies starting in 2023. The first theme is "Toxic Workplaces" and the second is "The Natural World." We'd like to open up participation to women outside the group, with an eye to diversity.

This series is intended to amplify women’s voices, but writers need not necessarily confront issues of gender, sexual harassment, patriarchy, etc. Essays may be politically conscious, but please avoid didactic writing and polemics. Successful pieces will include a strong, relatable voice, engaging narrative, rich sensory detail, and thoughtful reflection.

Submissions of 1,000-5,000 words should be pasted into the body of an email, along with a brief bio, and sent to by 12/1/2022. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable as long as you withdraw your piece immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Please wait until you’ve heard back about one piece before submitting another. Response time will likely be within 2-3 weeks.

Accepted pieces will be compensated with a free copy of the anthology and $0.02/word for previously unpublished pieces. Previously published work will be considered, but it won't receive cash compensation, just the free copy. All rights other than anthology will be retained by the author.
